BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) – During the Bettendorf Board of Education meeting Monday the board approved the appointment of Michael Raso as the interim superintendent for 2016-2017 school year.
Raso has been serving as the Bettendorf Community School District assistant superintendent since fall 2008. Raso has superintendent’s licensure as well as an Ed. S. (Specialist in Education) and Masters in Secondary Education Administration from Drake University in Des Moines. He received a B.A. in Elementary Education with a minor in Middle School/Junior High Education Mathematics as well as additional certifications in secondary mathematics and coaching from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
He is an AdvancEd State & National Council Committee Member, as well as a member of the Association for Supervision of Curriculum Development (ASCD), and School Administrators of Iowa (SAI). Raso has served as a SAI (School Administrators of Iowa) Legislative Committee Member, been a speaker at a number of educational conferences, and served as SAI Conference Program Planning Committee Member and Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship Committee Member.
Raso will be replacing Superintendent Theron Schutte. Dr. Schutte has accepted the position of superintendent with the Marshalltown Community School District in Iowa beginning July 1.
The Bettendorf Board of Education plans to start the search process for the next superintendent in November with the goal of approving a hire in early spring with a start date of July 1, 2017.
