ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) – The Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with Trinity EMS Systems in developing the protocol, policy, and training to first responders in the use of Naloxone Hydrochloride (NARCAN).
NARCAN is used in the treatment of a suspected opiate overdose.
Four deputies attended a train-the-trainer in May 2016. Those deputies then trained other Rock Island County Sheriff personnel. The Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office has established its policy for using NARCAN, and deputies are now in possession of the medicine and can dispense it if they see signs of an opioid drug overdose.
Members of the Rock Island County Jail will also be trained in the use of NARCAN.
