DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – According to the City of Davenport, the contractor remains on schedule with sewer repairs and we have been able to begin resurfacing work that was originally scheduled for completion in 2017.

While sewer and water main repairs and resurfacing will continue in the two left/west lanes of Brady St. between River Dr. and Lombard St. through October 20th, there are changes in the coming weeks.

Beginning Monday, October 17th, all side streets to the west of Brady St between 6th and Lombard Streets will be closed at their intersection with Brady St.  Side streets will be open, however, access to/from Brady St from the west will not be permitted along this stretch to allow the new asphalt to be applied and set.

According to the city, during this process, the public may notice areas where work is not actively being performed in the two west lanes.  That is necessary for hot asphalt and fresh tack to cool, cure and become a quality drivable surface.  Bikes and vehicles that drive over these surfaces before they are ready can be damaged.  Pedestrians should also not walk on hot asphalt or fresh oil.  Please cross at 5th St (or any street south of 5th), Locust St, or Lombard St (or any street north of Lombard).  Palmer students should use the skywalk over Brady St.

This work will also require portions of Brady St. to be reduced to one lane for periods of two to four hours while the paving machine and rollers make passes over the new surfaces.  This additional lane reduction will be transient and will not occur during peak travel times.

Resurfacing work in the left lanes should be completed by October 20th.  Between October 17th and October 20th no work will be completed at the intersection of Brady and Locust to ensure two westbound and two eastbound lanes of traffic are maintained on Locust at Brady while other west access points to/from Brady are closed.

Once resurfacing work in the two left (west) lanes is complete, the contractor will switch sides and begin resurfacing work in the two right (east) lanes of Brady St between 6th and Lombard Streets.   Work will also recommence at the intersection of Locust and Brady.

A map reflecting these and upcoming construction activities can be found at this link.
