FORT MADISON, Iowa (KWQC) – The Fort Madison fire chief says someone welding on a car sparked a fire.
The fire started just before 9:00 pm on Sunday May 1, 2016 on the 600 block of Avenue F.
Fire Chief Joey Herren says the owner was welding on a car, which caught the car on fire. The fire spread to the rest of the garage. The garage and the car are a total loss.
A second fire occured earlier in the day, also on Avenue F. This fire started just after 4:30 pm on the 2000 block of Avenue F. The fire broke out in the basement. The owner was not home at the time. No one was hurt. The basement has heavy heat and fire damage, and there is smoke damage to the rest of the house.
