QUAD CITIES (KWQC) – The Quad Cities Chamber announced today its intention to support Exelon nuclear energy plants in the Quad Cities and Clinton, Illinois.
In the Chamber’s news release today it wrote:
The importance of nuclear energy is nothing new to the Quad Cities, but it has become imperative and urgent to convince the rest of Illinois, and other parts of government, that nuclear energy is vital to our economy and environment. Last week, Exelon announced that the fate of its Quad Cities and Clinton nuclear plants may well hang in the ability of the legislature and governor to pass legislation this year. If that doesn’t happen, Exelon has announced it will retire the Clinton plant in 2017 and the Quad Cities plant in 2018. We need your help convincing legislators to pass legislation that will position Illinois for the future and keep the Quad Cities nuclear plant viable.

Last week, the company that owns the Quad Cities Nuclear Generating Station suggested the Cordova and Clinton facilities would need to close unless legislation is passed during the spring Illinois legislative session, scheduled to end on May 31.
