DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Davenport City Council has set a public hearing date for the Kraft Heinz economic development deal.

The public hearing date is set for February 17th. Kraft Heinz wants to move its downtown facility to 70 acres in the Eastern Iowa Industrial Center.

Kraft Heinz announced last year it planned to move to a $200 million dollar facility in an industrial park off of Northwest Boulevard. The company agreed to retain at least 475 full time positions.

In an effort to support the move the city proposed a 75% rebate of property taxes paid over and above the base year valuation of the current property. The proposed Kraft Heinz property’s base year valuation is about $8.266 million.

The city says it will also contribute up to $1.67 million for the construction of a new road bordering the east side of the company’s new facility and improvements to Slopertown Road and Enterprise Way. The city applied for and received approval from the Iowa Department of Transportation’s RISE program. That will contribute 80% of the costs up to $4.6 million.

Kraft Heinz says in addition to keeping 475 full time positions, at least 261 will be paid an average of $17.48/hour and 214 positions will be paid an estimated $15.46/hour.
