(Associated Press) – Does cheddar make it better? Today is National Hamburger Day.
The day coincides with the invention of the mechanical meat grinder in the 1860’s.
The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says the hamburger made its international debut at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis. It was served on sliced bread with ground mustard, mayo, an onion and pickles. The modern American hamburger bun appeared during World War I.
