‘Suspicious’ fire destroys camper in Burlington

BURLINGTON, Iowa (KWQC) – The Burlington Fire Department was called to a camper fire at Timberline Estates on Thursday June 2, 2016 just before 5:00 pm.

The fire was on the 14,000 block of Washington Road in Flint River Township. Firefighters found a fifth wheel camper fully engulfed in flames when they arrived on the scene. Crews used tank water on the fire trucks to get the fire under control. The neighboring RV sustained extensive exterior damage.

The owner of the camper, William Turner of Silas, Alabama, was not at the camper at the time. The camper, valued at $15,000, is considered a total loss and is insured. Turner was the only resident of the camper and was not injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Burlington Fire Department and Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office and is considered suspicious.
